Fun Facts About The Tongue!

We use our tongues all the time to eat, talk, and swallow. Food just wouldn’t be the same without a working tongue, but have you ever thought about how this amazing organ does what it does? We’re going to share some of the most interesting facts about your tongue!

  1. The average tongue is about 3 inches long and men typically have slightly longer tongues than women. The tongue is measured from epiglottis (a flap of cartilage in the mouth at the back of the tongue) to the tip.
  2. Most adults have around 10,000 taste buds and they renew themselves each week!
  3. Every person’s tongue is unique and similar to fingerprints. Some see the potential for the tongue to act as an identity verification tool.
  4. The tongue is the only muscle in human body that works without any support from the skeleton. Yes! It is known as muscular hydrostat.
  5. The tongue is not the only place where taste buds live. Taste buds can also be found on the inside of our cheeks, on lips, on the roof of our mouth and even under the tongue.
  6. Our tongue has a very unique property. It is incapable of detecting taste if it is dry. This means that if you place a piece of lemon on a dry tongue, you will not be able to tell that it is sour. The tongue gets its ability to sense taste only in the presence of saliva that keeps it moist.
  7. The color of the tongue can tell a lot about a person’s health. Here are some color indications about health: Pink Tongue = Good Health; White Tongue = Fungal Infection and Yellow Tongue = Stomach Problem or Fever.
  8. About 2/3rd of the tongue is visible and the remaining 1/3rd is not visible. The part that is not visible is close to the throat.
  9. In Tibet, you can stick your tongue out at others. It will not be considered rude or childish. In Tibet, it is actually a greeting.
  10. The tongue has eight muscles!

Back to School Tips!

Sweet summertime is wrapping up and coming to end which means it’s back to school for the kiddos.  You trade in late nights for early mornings and once school is back in session things start to get REALLY busy!  We want to give you guys a few tips that will help you feel more organized and less stressed this school year.

The biggest piece of advice that we can give you is to establish a consistent routine with your children.  Kids CRAVE structure whether they admit it or not! 😉  Avoid the first day of school chaos by starting your routine a few days early.  Set the alarms, go through your morning rituals and load up in the car to make it to the bus stop or school on time.  This will help you feel more settled and get an idea of how long it’s going to take you to get out the door.

Meal prepping is a life saver!! There are thousands of recipes online and on Pinterest.  You can make breakfast casseroles on the weekend and all you’ll have to do before school is heat it up and BAM your kids have a healthy and nutritious breakfast that will give them all the brain power that they need! 😊 Utilizing your crockpot is a great time saver in the evenings.  Throw all the ingredients in there in the morning and when you get home from school and work, you’ve got a warm meal that’s ready to be eaten.  This will give you extra time with your kids in the evenings because you won’t be slaving in the kitchen for an hour.

If you stay consistent and really plan out your week then you will find that this school year can be one of the best yet!  The routine isn’t just for the kids, it’s for us parents as well!  We will benefit from it just as much as they will.  We hope these tips have sparked some ideas in your own mind so that you can incorporate them into your families daily life.  Best of luck to all the kids and PARENTS going back to school this year!  We know you’ll do great!!
